Shock Super League club beats Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC to sign NRL star

Huddersfield Giants' major transfer business saw them sign Adam Clune

Clubs like Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Hull FC and Huddersfield Giants have all been interested in players in one particular position.

They are all in the market for halfbacks. Hull FC have lost Jake Clifford for 2024 with the halfback agreeing a return to North Queensland Cowboys in 2024.

Meanwhile, Wigan star Cade Cust is transitioning from a six into a number nine and is out of contract.

Leeds on the other hand have allowed Blake Austin to leave the club immediately to join Castleford Tigers for the rest of the season whilst Aidan Sezer is headed to the NRL.

Huddersfield are an interesting one because they have so many spine options at the moment anyway that the expected exit of Theo Fages wouldn’t hurt them.

However, despite reported interest from Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos, it is the Giants who have swooped in and signed Newcastle Knights halfback Adam Clune for the 2024 campaign.

As aforementioned, the Giants seem set to lose Theo Fages to Catalans Dragons. The former Salford Red Devils and St Helens star joined the club ahead of 2022 but has struggled through injuries during his career at the John Smith’s Stadium.

He is now set to return to France to play for Catalans Dragons and replace the departing Mitchell Pearce and Tyrone May ahead of the 2024 season.

Hull FC were the club who had led the way initially and recently that interest was confirmed by Newcastle Herald reporter Barry Toohey.

“I think there is interest. Hull are keen on Adam Clune and that is the talk. Whether he is prepared to go to England, I’m not 100% sure and there is talk that he is not,” Toohey said on the Toohey’s News podcast.

“I know the Knights haven’t discarded signing Adam Clune for next season. I’m not sure how far Hull are down the track with Clune or even if they are down the track with Clune going to England.

“I think he would be very good over there, he has played the last few NSW Cup games and he has played very well. I would try and keep him.”
