Leeds Rhinos have been battling Warrington Wolves, Hull KR and Salford Red Devils for a play off spot but it seems their chances of making the top six are remote at best and the focus among Leeds fans is righting those wrongs in 2o24.
Recruitment is a key focus of this and the Rhinos have signed the likes of Mickael Goudemand, Lachie Miller and former Huddersfield Giants star Matt Frawley.
They have now been linked with Sam Powell of Wigan Warriors who is out of contract and has been linked with the Rhinos by Leeds Live and showed what he can do again grabbing a try against Castleford Tigers as he looks set to be key to Wigan’s Grand Final chances.
Even though, former official Richard Silverwood slammed the decision to sign him.
He said:
“Leeds are missing pace at 9 IMO. O’Connor, Johnson and Powell all much of a muchness. Bizarre their recruitment.”
This week the Rhinos take on Catalans Dragons.
Going into the game, Rohan Smith revealed that they still aren’t able to bring back anyone from injury in disappointing news for Leeds.
He also revealed consultations for James Bentley and Aidan Sezer after head knocks.
The Rhinos are forced to make one change with Sam Walters ruled out with a one game suspension following last week’s defeat at home to Wigan Warriors.
The Rhinos are still without Aidan Sezer and James Bentley as they follow the return to play protocols following concussion whilst Richie Myler, Justin Sangare and Luis Roberts are ruled out through injury. Nene Macdonald is still unavailable for selection.
Young front rower Tom Nicholson-Watton has been named in the 21 man squad for the first time this season. The Reserves regular played with the first team in pre-season and has trained with the first team squad all season. He has most recently been on loan with Keighley Cougars in the Championship.
