Sheffield snap up highly-rated Featherstone winger

Sheffield have confirmed the signing of highly-rated outside back Jack Render on a one-year deal from Featherstone Rovers.

The youngster is a product of the Castleford Tigers academy system, where he was a prolific try-scorer, notching 38 in his final two years at The Jungle.

He joins the Eagles after two years with Rovers, where he scored five tries in 22 appearances.

“I am very happy to be joining the Eagles,” Render said. “Having not played in a while, it’s good to be part of a young, hungry team that also has some great experience.

“I felt it was in my best interests to move away from Featherstone and get more game time. After what has happened this year too, I wanted a fresh start.”

Eagles head coach Mark Aston added: “Jack is a good kid and has come out of a good Castleford system. He has got some potential after playing 20-odd games for Featherstone last year. It’s good that he can cover a number of positions too; full-back, wing and centre.

“He has an attitude to develop and be the best he can be. We want to fetch these kids into the club, into our culture, with the aim to develop them and be around us for a long time.”
