Shaun Kenny-Dowall heaps praise on Hull KR teammates after Dream Team omissions

Hull KR captain Shaun Kenny-Dowall has highlighted his belief that up to five of his Robins teammates could have made the Super League Dream Team this season.

The in-form centre finds himself named in the Dream Team for a second season in a row; but he is the club’s only representative in the prestigious squad despite their stellar season.

Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s semi-final against Wigan Warriors, the former New Zealand international said: “I think there could have been three or four or five other guys that put their hand up consistently week in, week out (to be included in the Dream Team); and I see what they do every week. Internally we know their value and we sing their praises on from a club level no doubt.”

Whilst he highlighted his disappointment at his teammates missing out, he also spoke on his own personal pride at making the Dream Team for a second year in a row.

“Immensely proud,” he said. “Obviously I give credit to my teammates, I’m in a really good team and playing with some guys that I feel really comfortable with. Great combination with over a long period of time. Like I said, to still get those accolades at this point in my career, I’m extremely proud of that.”

This will be his final season of professional Rugby League before taking a role within Willie Peters back room staff; however it is arguably his best season in Red and White. They have already played in the Challenge Cup Final, but now the Robins find themselves just 80 minutes away from the Super League Grand Final.

The outgoing captain gave his thoughts on the season as a whole, saying: “I think it’s been the most enjoyable for what we’ve been able to achieve as a group and it’s what we set out to do. It’s really fulfilling when you go out and achieve what you set out to do at the start of the year. Everyone’s pushing in the right direction, there’s no egos at the club, it’s just a really enjoyable club and group to be around.”
