Scott Taylor reveals he might not have played his last game for Hull FC

Hull FC stalwart Scott Taylor called time on his career at the end of the 2023 season but the former England international has revealed that fans could well see him in the famous Black and White once again.

Taylor, aged 32, hung up his boots at the end of the recent campaign having played 314 Super League games with 178 of those coming for his beloved Hull FC.

He made 23 appearances in the 2023 campaign and plenty of those watching him would argue he could go again given his prowess but the prop has spoken with BBC Humberside explaining how he wanted to depart the game ‘on his terms’, whilst admitting an opportunity to continue did exist.

Taylor explained: “We spoke about it a lot last year, especially obviously we got towards the end of the season. Me and Tony sat down and I think ideally they would want me to do one more year but we’ve always kept in good chat with all and always been fully honest.

“I’ve made it quite clear to them from day one as well that I’d never play for anybody else again. Hull FC is my team, I’ll come back home when I finish at home.

“It was never about chasing money, it was just literally if I felt like I could do one more year and maintain a level which I’d be happy with, as a competitive and passionate man I am, I would have done it but no.”

Taylor then made a surprise revelation that it could yet “be the wrong decision”, however he was firm on the fact that he was content with his call.

“I feel like it could be the wrong decision but I know that if I did one more year and I didn’t deliver what I wanted to that would have upset me even more. So, very content with the decision,” he explained.

Given his high esteem in the game and particularly in Hull, the hard-hitting prop has been handed a testimonial with the clash set to be against one of his former clubs Wigan during FC’s pre-season.

Discussing his testimonial, Taylor said: “I’ve got my game against Wigan which I’m over the moon about. It will be the first friendly in the MKM Stadium since 2018 so I’m over the moon to pull that one off.

“I’ve not had the full chat with Tony yet, and obviously it will be his call, but I feel like I’ll be on the pitch at some point in that game but it won’t be for too long.

“I need to put the club first, there’s nothing more I’d love than doing a 10 or 15 minute spell but it’s two weeks before the season and it’s the main friendly for the club to get the new signings involved.

“I will be on the field but as it stands I’m not sure how long for.”

Taylor’s testimonial is set for Sunday 4th February with FC set to open up Super League just 11 days later on the 15th when they host rivals Hull KR.
