“I value…” – Paul Rowley reveals biggest factor in rejecting Hull FC

Paul Rowley rejects Hull FC

A hectic week for Paul Rowley came to an end yesterday. Salford Red Devils defeated Warrington Wolves in a tight encounter and the 49-year-old has now revealed details on that rollercoaster week.

It was a week that had everything. To start off, Rowley appeared set to take over at Hull FC. The two clubs reportedly agreed a transfer fee for Rowley to make the switch.

However, Rowley turned down the move. This left the Black and Whites looking to the NRL for their next head coach. Now, Rowley has opened up on the reasons behind rejecting Hull, and his motivation to stay at Salford. Rowley believes the club are on the verge of achieving something special together.

After the game, in his post match press conference, Paul Rowley explained his decision. He stated that happiness was the main motivation for remaining with the Red Devils.

“I think the simple way of putting that is there was a respectful, mature decision between two clubs and that’s as far as it went really.

“They and I came to the conclusion that I’m happy, I value happiness and we left it at that.”

“There’s nothing more to say really”, Rowley stated, “It was respect both clubs respectful obviously and good and professional so that’s good.”

Asked whether is was his decision to stay at Salford, Rowley stated, “We didn’t get that far down the line.”

For Paul Rowley, yesterday’s victory was a reminder of why he got into coaching. Rowley said, “Ultimately my job is to coach and that’s what I enjoy doing and the best bit about coaching is the group that I represent, the group that I work with, staff and players. So when you get a reward at the end of a week… there’s nothing better you know.

The game was marred by a serious injury to young Warrington star, Leon Hayes but Salford found a way to win against one of Super League’s top sides. Rowley believes it is now key now to get too carried away by the win.

“It’s not like we’re backflipping or getting ahead of ourselves, you know, we’ll remain very humble always and respectful. However it’s satisfying and you know we’ll enjoy a little bit of time together now, we’ll all go together for maybe a beer or a cup of tea, whatever it is.

“But it’s just satisfying and rewarding that when you work hard, you get rewards. And I just think it’s fitting that the lads get the rewards that they deserve.”
