Willie Peters offers Wembley update for Ryan Hall with Jordan Abdull’s status confirmed

Willie Peters Hull KR

The last time that Hull KR played in a Challenge Cup Final is a memory that everyone associated with the club will want to forget apart from maybe Ryan Hall, with Hall featuring for Leeds Rhinos that day as they defeated the Robins by a record margin of 50-0.

Whilst Hall didn’t get on the score sheet that day his opposite winger did and that man will once again line up against Rovers at Wembley in just under a fortnight’s time.

That man is Tom Briscoe with the current Leigh Leopards winger scoring five tries on that record-breaking day back in 2015 and breaking Rovers’ fans hearts, something he will once again aim to do under the Wembley arch on August 12th.

Whilst Briscoe is almost certain to play unless he picks up a freak knock before the game, the same can’t be said of his fellow Rhinos winger that day in Ryan Hall.

Hall is currently out with an injury, something that caused him to pull out in the warm up of the Robins’ semi-final victory over Wigan Warriors at his old stomping ground of Headingley just over a week ago.

Willie Peters spoke to the press on Tuesday to provide an update on Hall and the news is very inconclusive.

“Yeah, so that’s going to be a slow process and that’s a decision that won’t be made until the sort of back end of next week,” Peters explained.

“There’s no guarantees but we’re hoping again that he’ll be able to play. I’ve said before if anyone can play with this injury, it’s him. If he doesn’t play, it’s certainly not ready to play.

“So we’ve just got to manage it again and get him right for the best he can be in the older play but there’s no guarantees there.”

Another man who has been out injured, but for a far longer period than Hall, is Jordan Abdull with the half-back tearing his hamstring earlier in the season.

He was scheduled to be out for 12-16 weeks at the time and some thought that with a speedy recovery he might be available for this big game, something Peters was also asked about.

“No if I ask him now he might say yes (he can play) but no.”

Whilst expected that Abdull wouldn’t feature it’s still a blow for the news to be confirmed but the doubt that hangs over the head of Ryan Hall will leave fans sweating ahead of the big game.
