Rugby union winger joins historic British rugby league club

Hunslet have pulled off a major coup by re-recruiting Jack Render for the 2024 campaign. Jack, who was voted Player of the Year by both the Coaches and Supporters in 2023, had signed for Rotherham RUFC in September. However, his passion for rugby league has led to a quick return.

Jack commented “I’m thankful for the experience at Rotherham. They are a great Club and a great set of lads, but as a winger the involvement in the game is much more limited than what it is in League. Once I made my mind up that I wanted to come back to League I immediately got in touch with Hunslet and I am delighted to be back.”

Head Coach Dean Muir commented “Pre-season is going extremely well and we are really pleased with the quality and size of the squad. However, when a player of Jack’s ability becomes available, and more importantly wants to be part of what we are building, it was too good an opportunity to miss.”

Chairman Kenny Sykes added “Jack’s a great player and a proven try scorer at this level. At 24 he is only going to get better. There was obviously interest from a number of other clubs but we were determined to get our man, and that was made possible by the financial backing of a couple of our loyal supporters. Dean and the Boys are working extremely hard and we can’t wait for the season to start.”

The Parksiders will have to be on it from game one as Hunslet travel to reprieved Newcastle Thunder on Sunday March 17th (3pm) who, after being relegated from the Championship announced they would not be competing in Betfred League 1. However fund raising sees them return with a mouth-watering clash against the Parksiders.

It doesn’t get any easier with a trip to Rochdale followed by back to back home games against Keighley Cougars and Oldham. But you have to face these teams during the season and it may be a good time to play some of who may be the top sides early on.

The introduction of loop fixtures means Hunslet will travel twice to Keighley and Midlands Hurricanes, whilst North Wales Crusaders and Workington Town will make two trips to South Leeds.

Another date for the diary is August 10th when Hunslet make the long trip down to Cornwall.

The whole season cumulates in the Play-offs that run between September 8th -29th , the final being held at the home ground of the earliest final qualifier.
