Rob Burrow to interview ex England and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney on new podcast

Rob Burrow is and will forever be a legend of rugby league and he’s now set to become a legend of the broadcasting and podcasting world, with the ex Leeds Rhinos man confirming that his podcast ‘Seven’ will be launched from the 8th November.

Burrow is one of the sport’s most loved characters, something that started during his time on the pitch but that has certainly continued off the pitch in his retirement.

A Leeds Rhinos legend the diminutive playmaker lit up Headingley and Super League on many occasions, lifting the Grand Final eight times and earning the Harry Sunderland Trophy on two of those occasions.

His retirement has sadly been marred by his fight against Motor Neurone Disease but rather than shying away from the fight Burrow has stepped up and in doing so helped raise millions of pounds in crucial funding.

He announced his diagnosis in December 2019 and since then has gone on the raise millions of pounds but also raise massive awareness about MND, a neurological disease that is currently incurable.

However the attitude of Burrow, his best mate Kevin Sinfield and the army of supporters that he has garnered is that ‘MND isn’t incurable, it’s just underfunded’.

For all his work in the field of raising money and awareness Burrow has earned recognition at the Sports Personsality Awards, Pride of Britain and even an MBE however he now will get to take the mic and host his own podcast, new which he’s shared via BBC Radio Leeds.

“We’ve got some news to share haven’t we? I’m hosting a podcast,” Burrow confirmed alongside wife Lindsey, before offering up his trademark dry humour and asking his wife to give the announcement ‘a bit of welly.’

“My excitement doesn’t come across on my eye gaze, everything comes out the same and a bit monotone. Can you do it again for me with a bit of welly?”

Lindsey went on to explain: “Everybody, Rob’s hosting a podcast. Hooray!”

“So the podcast is called ‘Seven’. Seven episodes, seven different sporting legends and seven questions on each podcast.”

The first episode will drop on November 8th and will be available via BBC Sounds, but Burrow took the time to explain why this new venture was so important to him among all the other incredible feats he has done.

“This is something I’m so excited about because it feels great to be given a chance to be me, showcasing my personality and having a bit of fun,” he stated.

“I’m lucky enough to have had a cracking rugby league career, winning eight Grand Finals and twenty international caps, It was such an amazing time.

“Now is the rubbish bit, I was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2019. This is my voice but it’s a sample of me, I’ve managed to stay a Yorkshire lad though with my accent which is a win.

“It’s going to be brilliant and an honour to chat with them, it’s going to be great to plan my questions in advance. I plan to be cheeky because I’ll probably get away with it.

It was also revealed that his first guest will be former Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney.
