Richard Silverwood defends referee after red card for alleged bite in Bradford Bulls clash

Former referee Richard Silverwood has rushed to the defence of Cameron Worsley, after he sent off Jorge Taufua last night in Barrow’s victory over the Bulls.

Replying to fan comments on social media, Silverwood said: “At least he has the guts to have a go. If it wasn’t for the likes of Worsley refereeing, you would have no game to watch! You should try having a go.”

Referee Cameron Worsley sent off former Wakefield man Taufua in the 32nd minute of the game yesterday, with Barrow Raiders reporting “an alleged bite on captain Jarrad Stack”.

At this point in the contest, the Raiders were leading 6-0, thanks to Ryan Shaw’s three penalties.

He would slot another kick following the Taufua red to make it 8-0 to the Cumbrian’s at half-time.

Shaw would be back in the second half, as he added his fifth kick to make it 10-0 to the visitors. Jayden Myers would bring the Bulls back into it as he scored out wide to bring it to within six, however the Raiders would hit back.

It was Ryan Shaw again, this time with ball in hand though as he scored a try out wide to add another four points to his already impressive individual tally.

The Raiders would then also see themselves reduced to 12 men, as Danny Langtree picked up an injury and couldn’t continue.

Now back to equal numbers, the Bulls quickly added their second of the night through Ben Blackmore. A successful conversion from former Wakefield Trinity man Lee Gaskell pulled the Bulls to within four, however the Raiders hung on to record a huge victory.

This result sees Barrow move up to 11th in the Championship table. They are now only one point behind Cumbrian rivals Whitehaven in 10th, however the bottom of the table is incredibly tight; only two points separate Swinton in 13th with Whitehaven in 11th. The relegation dog fight will go right down to the wire.
