Real estate magnate lines up takeover of Castleford Tigers

Martin Jepson of Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers are in a phase of change with new head coach Craig Lingard being appointed to the helm, but the club have also made appointed a new director of whom has been granted “significant control” of the club which could signify a takeover of the club.

Two filings were made on the official government website for business, Companies Houses, last night in which it was detailed that a new person had been given “significant control”, whilst also being appointed as a director.

The initial filing was a “Notice of Individual Person with Significant Control” and named Mr Martin Clive Jepson as being registered with the Tigers.

It’s worth noting that the document defines the nature of control as well, explaining some specifics on the level of ownership.

It states: “The person holds, directly or indirectly, more than 25% but not more than 50% of the shares in the company.”

The form was authenticated by one of the club’s staff and it must have been done so by one of the following; Director Secretary, Person Authorised, Administrator, Administrative Receiver, Receiver, Receiver Manager Charity Commissions Receivers and Manager, CIC Manager or Judicial Factor, per the form filed on Companies House.

A second filing was also made in which it appointed Mr Jepson as director, with the AP01 file submitted meaning ‘Appointment of Director’.

That confirmed that the company, Castleford Tigers in this case, consented to the named person, Mr Martin Clive Jepson, to act as director.

It also confirms that Mr Jepson is British, resides in England and works as a chartered surveyor, but details otherwise on the listing are sparse.

Serious About Rugby League can confirm that Martin Jepson is a real estate magnate who established Ergo Real Estate in 2018 having worked extensively in acquisition, disposal, asset management and development, both on a project and portfolio basis, winning ‘Deal of the Year’ awards every year between 2012 and 2016.

He has a strong track record of delivering exceptional returns in all sectors across the UK. Formerly President and COO, UK Office Division, Brookfield Property Partners, he has also held executive positions with Hammerson, Howard Holdings, Taylor Woodrow and Delancey.

With Castleford in the process of trying to improve and work on their stadium at Wheldon Road and multiple issues having held the process up, Mr Jepson’s role as a chartered surveyor and huge developer could be a major gamechanger for the West Yorkshire side, especially if this initial acquisition of shares turns into a complete takeover.
