Path clears for Warrington Wolves target whilst Sam Burgess earns side gig

Warrington Wolves are one of the intriguing teams heading into the 2024 Super League campaign with the club under new coaching in Sam Burgess, and now one of the men Burgess is interested in signing could be a lot easier to secure.

There’s plenty of questions to be asked of Burgess as a first time head coach but also of the squad at Warrington, specifically the question of how can a team that wins eight in a row to start a season then go on to lose nine in a row?

It was a bizarre turn of form for the club and one that ultimately cost Daryl Powell his job despite there having been such high hopes earlier on in the season at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The brave decision to appoint Burgess will mean there’s plenty of focus on the club’s results, as there will be based on the recruitment that they have managed.

Plenty of the team’s new signings come from down under which highlights the pulling power that Burgess has with one of his former teammates in Zane Musgrove among those that have put pen to paper for the club.

Another signing is Rodrick Tai who despite not having played a game for Wire yet is attracting NRL interest following an impressive international series for Papua New Guinea, and should Warrington lose him somehow then the path to a new centre has cleared up.

That’s because Wests Tigers have slowed down their pursuit for Melbourne Storm centre Justin Olam on account of their bids for Penrith Panthers playmaker Jarome Luai.

Wests have completely sidelined talks with Olam per the Daily Telegraph, instead opting to chase their half-back of the future.

That would mean that Olam, who had attracted interest from Burgess and Warrington, would be a lot easier to recruit due to his options becoming more and more limited.

Per the Telegraph Burgess has explored options to recruit Olam a few months ago which could well be he landed on Tai instead, the centre arriving from Queensland Cup side PNG Hunters.

Interestingly as well though the Telegraph also report on Burgess landing another new job whilst in England, the former South Sydney Rabbitohs man being made an ambassador of an investment firm.

He has become a UK executive partner for Wealth Street with the role seeing him ‘guide clients’, something that certainly seems a new enterprise.

On the Wealth Street website, it reads: “At Wealth Street, Sam embodies our mission and ignites our journey towards expansion into the northern hemisphere.

“As a devoted ambassador in this region, he not only creates new investment opportunities from the UK into the secure haven of Australia but also paves the way for expats living in the UK and international investors to channel their aspirations and capital into the Australian landscape.”
