Parramatta deny Matterson comments

Parramatta Eels have released a statement denying comments made by forward Ryan Matterson about former club Wests Tigers.

Matterson joined the Eels ahead of the 2020 season, after leaving the Tigers just one year after signing a three-year deal.

It was alleged, via a joint-venture source, that Matterson had said to the club: “You’ll never win a Grand Final. I want out.”

However, the Eels have defended their player, saying they and Matterson deny the quotes.

The statement says: “We are disappointed that they were originally raised publicly behind the veil of an anonymous source and without an initial opportunity to provide a response.

“Ryan has continually maintained that the reasons behind his departure from the Tigers will remain confidential.”

The Eels and the Tigers play each other on Thursday at Bankwest Stadium.
