Newcastle re-sign Scotland international

Newcastle Thunder have re-signed Scotland international forward Sam Luckley on a one-year deal.

The 23-year-old has been a key player for the club in recent seasons, racking up 78 appearances since his debut in 2016.

He is a Scotland international and has picked up four caps in the past two years, including being part of the Bravehearts 2021 World Cup qualifying squad.

“I’m very happy to sign another year with the club, although we only just missed out on promotion I feel the club is headed in the right direction and I will do all I can to help get Thunder into the position it deserves to be,” Luckley told the Thunder website.

Newcastle head coach Simon Finnigan added: “Sam was one of our most consistent performers last year and was very good for me throughout. He still has areas where he is a work in progress but he has an appetite to learn.

“He is good for the group and is a local boy as well playing every week in the first team and I was really excited when he decided to stay. I’m looking forward to getting him into pre-season of the back of a good autumn for Scotland.”
