Luke Gale was a massive signing for Hull FC when he was announced towards the back end of 2021.
Having led Leeds Rhinos to Challenge Cup glory in 2020, Gale’s 2021 season went belly up, being stripped of the captaincy as well as suffering two big injuries.
Since moving to East Yorkshire, Gale has been clear on the injury front – though a five-match ban in round two didn’t exactly get his career off to the best of starts at Hull.
A born competitor, Gale was made captain by head coach Brett Hodgson and has revealed what he brings to that role.
“By no exception do I think I am perfect,” Gale told the Jacuzzi Performance podcast.
“I compete and compete hard in everything I do – I’m not the biggest or strongest but I give my all every time.
“It’s always good leading the boys out and leading by example.
“I will come off the field and give 100% and I think that’s what you need as a leader.”
Gale has also spoken highly of the fanbase at the MKM Stadium and the expectation that him and his teammates are under to perform.
“It’s a massive club and the fan expectation is massive and rightly so.
“It’s a rugby league city with a great rivalry over the river with Hull KR.
“They expect a lot and there is a lot of expectation on us and we will carry that on through the season.”
