Leigh Leopards boss unhappy after defeat to “jammy” Giants

Leigh Leopards head coach

Leigh Leopards boss Adrian Lam wasn’t best pleased with his side after their defeat to Huddersfield Giants in Round One.

The Leopards won the Challenge Cup last year and many expected them to kick on in 2024 but they came up short against the Giants in Round One.

After the game, Lam said on Leopards TV: “Yeah, very disappointed obviously. You know, you have your whole pre-season to set up for that. We’ve been really good at that whole four months of it and just too many errors tonight. We put ourselves under pressure with just low completions and discipline.

” I thought they were great tonight. I thought they had plenty of energy and kept it really simple and did everything right. So it’s credit to them.”

When asked about complacency, he went on to say that Huddersfield got “jammy.”

He said: “Yeah, maybe there was a little bit of complacency. I didn’t feel that during the week. You know, I think we could have ledd 16 or 17 minutes in the game. I think it’s a completely different result but that’s in hindsight isn’t it.

“I think we were on until that point, bit of bad luck there, they get a jammy trail with a kick that rebounds which is what they do. bad luck there, they get a jammy try with a kick that rebounds which is what they do. Then they got a dummy half dive over try and it was game over.”

During the game, Lam’s medical staff withdrew star signing Matt Moylan to plenty of confusion. Lam explained:

“I was confused as well. I think the doc just thought that he landed awkwardly on his head or shoulder and made a decision that it needed to be checked so we went through with that.

“I support our medical team. They’ve been unreal. They’re one of the best in the competition so we’ve got to support them on that and then you know well that wasn’t the reason why we lost too you know it’s it’s it’s only a minor issue that no Matty was off the field for 10 minutes but there’s bigger problems than that.”
