Leeds Rhinos transfer off the table after major blow

Leeds Rhinos head coach Rohan Smith

As per usual, the Leeds Rhinos academy is producing some exciting stars who are likely to go on and be first-team regulars for the Rhinos in the years to come.

Among them is young Tom Nicholson-Watton who is very highly thought of at Headingley. The young forward made his Super League debut in the final game of the 2023 season against Castleford Tigers and featured predominately in the Wetherby Whaler Festive Challenge against Wakefield Trinity on Boxing Day.

He even crossed for a try teed up by Jack Sinfield and made a number of other breaks in an impressive outing for the young forward.

Recent reports from Leeds Live have said that the youngster is likely to leave the club on loan but Leeds may now re-think that with the Yorkshire Evening Post revealing that Sam Lisone will miss the start of the season through injury.

With doubts looming over Tom Holroyd and Kieran Hudson, keeping Nicholson-Watton for the start of the season looks likely.

Over the last few years, Leeds have grown increasingly close to the York Knights who have taken on a number of the Rhinos’ best young players on loan in the past.

In 2021, the Rhinos sent Corey Johnson on loan to York. Johnson emerged on the scene in 2019 as one of the most exciting youngsters in Super League but decided to retire in early 2020 to pursue other endeavours only to return to Leeds in 2021.

The Rhinos then sent him on loan to York where he impressed enough to make his Super League return against then-Champions St Helens away from home.

Impressive young centre Levi Edwards also spent a long time on loan at York before making the permanent switch to the club having surprisingly never played first-team rugby for the Rhinos.

The likes of Oli Field have also had their own stints at York but their biggest coup has come ahead of 2024 when they signed Leeds star Richie Myler ahead of the new season in one of the most surprising transfers of the winter.

The relationship between the two clubs is there and should Leeds pursue a loan opportunity for Nicholson-Watton it will likely be with the Knights.

Can you pay on the gate at Leeds Rhinos?

With Leeds Rhinos’ season drawing closer and a chance to see youngsters star like Tom Nicholson-Watton among debutants like Brodie Croft and Paul Momirovski, many fans are asking the question of how to get tickets to watch the Rhinos.

One question is can you pay on the gate and the answer to that is yes. This can be done at the turnstiles on St Michaels Lane (Gate B) as well as at Kirkstall Lane which is Gate G. This can be done with contactless payment via credit or debit card or even your phone. Cash is no longer accepted at the turnstiles.

This is one way for fans to see Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers debut against former club Salford Red Devils in Round One whilst former Leeds star Nene MacDonald will likely debut for their opponents.

Memberships can also be purchased from the Rhinos with the club around the five figure mark. You can see more here.
