Leeds Rhinos star seemingly set for surprise squad number change in 2023

Morgan Gannon is one of the most exciting young players not just in Super League but the sport as a whole.

He burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old in 2021 forced to debut against Champions St Helens in the Challenge Cup.

He immediately didn’t look out of place and became a vital first team member when no one expected him to, which is why he spent the season wearing the number 31 jersey.

So, going into 2022 he was promoted to shirt number 21 and again impressed.

However, he is set for a bit of a promotion in 2023 if his training gear is anything to go by.

The Rhinos may not have revealed their squad numbers for the 2023 season, plenty of pictures are being circulated of the Rhinos training in their new gear with their new shirt numbers.

So, it seems Gannon will move from the number 21 down a place to number 20, the shirt number vacated by Tom Briscoe upon his move to Leigh Leopards in 2023.

A bit of a surprise seeing him move up just one spot.

Many expected him to take on the number 15 shirt left by Alex Mellor or stay as the number 21.

The pictures also confirm that Aidan Sezer will keep the number seven shirt as expected.

Here’s the squad numbers we know at Headingley.

3 Harry Newman
5 Ash Handley
6 Blake Austin
7 Aidan Sezer
9 Kruise Leeming
