Leeds Rhinos launch classy heritage shirt to mark 20th anniversary of first Grand Final win

Leeds Rhinos have released their heritage shirt for the upcoming 2024 season with the design inspired by the class of 2004.

The Rhinos have reverted to a predominantly white home shirt for the 2024 campaign so it makes sense for their heritage shirt to be an alternate colour with the newly released shirt ticking the classic box of amber and blue.

Launched to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the iconic 2004 season, the shirt looks set to be a hit with fans as it brings back the nostalgia of that first Grand Final win in Super League whilst also appealing to those who love the traditional blue home shirts.

As well as some of the current crop of players modelling the shirt, the club also brought in playing legends from the 2004 campaign such as Kevin Sinfield, Mark Calderwood, Keith Senior, Richard Mathers and Barrie McDermott.

The Rhinos released the jersey tonight along with a statement explaining the reasons behind the iconic design, with images attached below.

It read: “Leeds Rhinos have revealed a new look heritage shirt that the team will wear throughout the 2024 season that marks the 20th anniversary of the club’s first ever Grand Final win in 2004.

“Twenty years ago, it had been 32 years since Leeds won their third and last Championship but a team transformed by Tony Smith, inspired by Kevin Sinfield and nurtured from the club’s Academy ranks would go on to make history at Old Trafford.

“To celebrate the launch, the Rhinos brought back Grand Final legends Mark Calderwood, Keith Senior, Richard Mathers, Barrie McDermott and Kevin Sinfield to model the new look kit alongside the current Rhinos stars.

“The royal blue and amber shirt will be worn by the Rhinos for selected games this season both at AMT Headingley and away from home with the heritage shirt complementing the designs for the principal and alternative kits already launched.

“The shirt is available to buy online now and will be available in store at AMT Headingley from Friday 1st December from 10am.

“The shirt features the logo of principal club partner Leeds Building Society on the front, new partners AMT Auto on the upper chest and shorts with the logos of Berry’s and Oxen completing the front. Apache and SM UK feature on the sleeves with NIC FM Services Group and ACS on the back of the shirt.”

Fans will certainly be keen to see the team wear this shirt in 2024 with the first possible outing coming on Boxing Day when the club face Wakefield Trinity, both clubs having opted for a white home shirt in 2024.
