Leeds Rhinos’ Boxing Day clash set to be streamed around the world

It’s less than a week from the big day. No, not Christmas Day, but Boxing Day and the excitement comes because it means the return of rugby league with the traditional clash between Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity.

Rohan Smith’s side host a rebuilding Wakefield Trinity at Headingley with this being the first chance for the Trinity fans to see their team under the coaching of Daryl Powell.

It’s been an incredibly busy off-season for both sides with the Rhinos making some huge signings such as Andy Ackers and Brodie Croft, whilst for Trintiy they’ve witnessed a club takeover which has led to widespread change across the whole club.

As such both teams will be entering the 2024 campaign with immense optimism, Leeds hopeful of a return to the play-offs whilst Wakefield have made it clear that they intend to win the Championship.

So whilst the result of Boxing Day won’t have any bearing on each team’s goals for 2024 it will be a great opportunity for fans to see new kits, new players and gain an insight into what the new campaign could look like.

Even better for some fans is that there is set to be an OurLeague stream of the game, meaning those that can’t attend in person can still watch the match.

That’s something that the Rhinos have confirmed via their website, teaming up with the RFL’s streaming service for the second year in a row to broadcast the traditional game.

A statement read: “Leeds Rhinos have teamed up with Our League to offer Rugby League fans around the world the chance to watch our traditional Boxing Day clash against Wakefield Trinity, live from AMT Headingley, kick off 11.30am.

“The Wetherby Whaler Festive Challenge will see Rohan Smith’s side take on Wakefield Trinity, with both sides fielding their new look squads for the 2024 season. Leeds’ squad will include new signings Andy Ackers, Matt Frawley, Mickael Goudemand and Lachlan Miller.

“For the second year running, the game will be streamed live on Our League with professional commentary from George Riley, who will be joined by a member of the Rhinos squad to give extra added insight as the expert summariser.

“The game will be available to fans at a cost of £6.95 if booked before midnight on Christmas Day, please be aware the price will rise to £10 on the day of the game, so fans are encouraged to purchase in advance of game day. In order to purchase the game, you need to be logged into your Our League account on the rugby-league.com website. You cannot purchase within the app. The full game replay will be available to anyone who has pre-ordered the game and fans who do not purchase before the game can also pay to watch the full match again after the final hooter for £6.95.

“Coverage will start from 11.15am live and exclusive from Headingley Stadium with full build up and team news beforehand. Not an Our League member yet? You can join via the RFL website here Rugby League (rugby-league.com) or download the Our League app free from the Play Store or App Store.

“Rugby League live from AMT Headingley on Boxing Day morning was a staple of the Festive period in years gone by when the undersoil heating guarantee a fixture for the television cameras and now the historic fixture will be streamed live. Whilst it is an 11.30am kick off in the UK, it is also convenient for fans around the world too.”
