Leeds Rhinos boss questions crucial decision in defeat to Hull KR

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Rohan Smith provided his assessment of his side’s 22-12 defeat to Hull KR last night on Sky Sports.

Smith felt that it was a good game but also felt that there was a forward pass that was missed in a crucial moment saying: “A last pass slap that was forward on a bit of good deep. Good hard game easily could have gone either way I’m really proud of our players.”

This seems to be in reference to the Ryan Hall try which gave Hull KR an eight point lead that Leeds would never come back from.

The Rhinos also lost Sam Lisone and James Donaldson to sin binnings which were also crucial in turning the tide in the game.

Leeds Rhinos boss provides injury update

He also gave an update on Mikolaj Oledzki: “It’s an interesting injury, I’m not a doctor so I won’t go there to try and elaborate on it, but it’s nothing serious but it’s an unusual situation. He’s a definite chance of playing next week but He’s a definite chance of playing next week but we’ll just wait and see.”

Leeds were forced to start the game with only one natural prop with Tom Holroyd being absent for the game. Justin Sangare was that prop as he was joined by the versatile Mickael Goudemand in the front row.

It was ironically the men who replaced those two who would go on to receive yellow cards that gave Hull KR the vital stints with an extra man that turned the game in their favour as well as giving them an extra four points in conditions where points were hard to come by.

For Smith it is back to the drawing board ahead of a difficult clash with Catalans Dragons next week. Smith will hope to have both Oledzki and Holroyd back in the mix for next week that much is certain but he will also be hoping for the kind of quality that led to Ash Handley’s try too.

The game takes place next Saturday at AMT Headingley Stadium with an afternoon kick-off.
