Lam surprised by Smithies sin binning

Wigan Warriors Head Coach Adrian Lam admitted he was surprised Morgan Smithies was sin binned during his side’s 30-22 win over Castleford Tigers.

Smithies was sent to the sin bin just two minutes into the second half for a crusher tackle on James Clare. Clare was stretchered off after the tackle wearing a neck brace.

Lam admitted he would need to take a closer took at what happened.

He said: “I haven’t seen it closely, but I was surprised he was sin binned for it.

“There was one that could have gone the other way, but I’m not too sure. I’ll have a look at it, I didn’t see it close enough.”

Lam also confirmed they are awaiting to discover the extent of the injury suffered by Liam Marshall during the game.

The winger limped off in the first half after picking up a knee injury.

He added: “He rolled his knee. He has some sort of ligament damage there, we’ll find out more tomorrow. It’s probably medial.”
