Lam explains rotation process

Wigan Warriors Head Coach Adrian Lam has explained the day-to-day headache of managing his side during a congested schedule.

The Warriors handed out several debuts for Tuesday night’s clash with St Helens at the AJ Bell Stadium, with Lam praising their bravery against a near full strength Saints side.

However, he did confirm none of them would be in contention for the semi-final on Saturday.

Explaining his process, he said: “It is tough with the scheduling of the Super League to say ‘he might play three games, he may play against Wakefield, Saints and Leeds, so let’s make him play two.’ You need to weigh up your numbers.

“Everyone who played for us in the last two matches was everyone who was physically fit and not suspended to play. If there was more, they would have played as well. We tripled up three players in the end.

“That is the tough part about scheduling, making sure you are doing right by everyone. We had to sit some out of the Wakefield game, and play a small part against St Helens so they were right for Saturday.

“It’s been a tough process to get through this period. The teams that will contract the virus over the next two months will find it really difficult to get through.

“It’s a day-to-day headache, but we will get through it.”
