Jon Wilkin says Leeds Rhinos star has an attitude problem

Harry Newman is an outstanding player.

In fact he is one of the best in Super League and should soon get his England debut all being well.

But some have questioned his attitude since he failed to turn the ball inside for Richie Myler against Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup last week.

On the back of this, Sky Sports’ Jon Wilkin questioned Newman’s attitude:

“Harry Newman’s ability on the field cannot be questioned. He is one of the best ball carriers that Leeds have.

“He can change a game, he changed the Wigan game with two interception tries.

“He just changes the course of games with how aggressive he carries the ball but that’s not my question for Harry Newman.

“That’s not my question, the bigger question I have is his attitude, his behaviour and how competitive he is. Does he need to compete as hard as he does and is it serving him well? Sometimes I don’t think it does serve him well.”

He went on to add that if Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Peacock were in the current squad he would be more reigned in:

“I have no issue with that. His performances on the field, what he does on the field, I have no issue with.

“I question some of the off field stuff and I think his attitude needs shaping a bit.

“If Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Peacock were at this club, I don’t think he would sometimes behaver as he does.

“That is coming from me, I was badly behaved and I know frustration very well and it didn’t serve me well.”

Sadly we might now see Newman for some time after he went off with a fourth hamstring injury of his career against St Helens on Friday night.
