Jon Wilkin says current Leeds Rhinos team are not up to standard

Leeds Rhinos have been a very strange team to follow this season.

They have been very inconsistent. They have beaten every team from last year’s top four but also lost to Castleford Tigers.

The Rhinos have also competed in big games but allowed them to slip away such as recently against Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup and St Helens on Friday night.

However, their inconsistency is killing them and Jon Wilkin questioned it on Sky Sports.

He questioned why Leeds needed adversity to get going as he also questioned the standards of the squad compared to generations past.

“It was a remarkable performance when they were down to 12 men and the contrast between the first half performance and the second half was just chalk and cheese,” he said of their win against Wigan in Super League.

“My question to Leeds, who are a fantastic club, do they need adversity to get going and what sort of method and strategy is that to win big games?

“They almost need something to get them going so my question is, at a club like Leeds, the motivation to win and play well from minute one is part of the DNA of the club.

“You look back to the golden generation of players they set that standard but I just don’t see that standard in these players.

“I will say this, they are exciting to watch.”
