Jon Wilkin likens himself to Leeds Rhinos star Harry Newman

Jon Wilkin was a feisty player back in his heyday.

In fact, given we have just seen a very fiery clash between Leeds Rhinos and St Helens, it makes sense to reflect on Jon Wilkin’s altercation with Keith Senior in a fixture between the two.

Wilkin has recently admitted he was sometimes poorly behaved on the field and believes this makes him best placed to talk about Leeds star Harry Newman.

“The bigger question I have is his attitude, his behaviour and how competitive he is,” Wilkin said on Newman on Sky Sports.

“Does he need to compete as hard as he does and is it serving him well? Sometimes I don’t think it does serve him well.”

He went on to add that if Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Peacock were in the current squad he would be more reigned in:

“I have no issue with that. His performances on the field, what he does on the field, I have no issue with.

“I question some of the off field stuff and I think his attitude needs shaping a bit.

“If Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Peacock were at this club, I don’t think he would sometimes behaver as he does.”

He then noted his own frustrations on the field using this to emphasis his point:

“That is coming from me, I was badly behaved and I know frustration very well and it didn’t serve me well.”
