“It feels right and I feel at home” – George Williams says he’s settled at Warrington Wolves

This time last year George Williams was preparing to continue the good work he’d begun at Canberra in 2020.

He’d endeared himself to rugby league fans in the Australian capital and was being tipped for another big year in the NRL.

However part way through the season he returned to Super League with Warrington Wolves poaching the English halfback and former Super League Champion.

He settled into the halves alongside fellow international Gareth Widdop replacing Blake Austin and going into next year he’s been given the number seven shirt with Widdop inheriting the six shirt left by the Leeds bound Austin.

Both Widdop and Williams are class players and together they could guide the Wolves to Super League glory in 2022 especially now that Williams has opened up about how settled he feels at the Halliwell Jones.

On the Through the Wire podcast, Williams spoke about how happy he feels at the club despite being there for less than a year: “It’s the happiness that it’s brought me. I feel, consider how long I’ve been at the club, I feel so settled, and the welcome obviously was brilliant from everyone.

“I just really like the culture that we’ve got. The culture that we’ve got and we’re building it feels right for me and I don’t know how I can explain that anymore.

“It just feels right and I feel at home already which is good and I think when a player is happy they normally perform at their best.

“I’m happy here and hopefully I can play well.”

If he can play with a smile on his face this year it’s likely he’ll replicate the form that fired Wigan to Super League glory when he was their number six.

Having already won Super League, he could very well end Warrington’s wait for Super League glory in 2022.
