Ian Watson suggests that Jake Connor isn’t the person everyone thinks

Jake Connor is set to make his second Huddersfield Giants debut tomorrow.

The England international started his career with the Giants before joining Hull FC at the end of the 2016 season.

However, after six seasons with the Black and Whites, he is back at the John Smith’s Stadium and after an injury layoff he is set to start on the bench against Saints.

When Ian Watson was asked whether Connor could handle the hype, Watson said he certainly would but also suggested that Connor is a different person from what you might expect.

“Easy. To be fair it’s quite funny because what people see on the field isn’t the real Jake, but you’d rather him be like that,” Watson said.

“I’d rather him have that competitive nature on the field and be a nice guy off it. He’s a great guy off it, he’s obviously got the air of confidence and arrogance about him, which I think all the best half-backs and spine players have.

“If you go through history and look at spine players then generally those guys have an air or arrogance and that competitive edge about them and Jake’s no different. He’ll handle the pressure.

“He was hankering to be involved last week but we felt that was too soon for him, we felt this week was the right time for it.”
