Hull KR suffer major blow ahead of Leeds Rhinos clash

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters

Hull KR boss Willie Peters has confirmed a potential blow for the Robins ahead of their clash against Leeds Rhinos as both clubs strive to secure a second consecutive win to begin the season.

Hull KR boss Peters confirmed that they will be without forward Dean Hadley after he failed his Head Injury Assessment in the opening game against Hull FC.

Peters said in his pre-match press conference: “Dean Hadley didn’t come back on as he failed his HIA, so that’s him going into the 10-12 day protocol that he can’t play for, so he’ll miss this week’s game.

“He’s been in all the meetings and is just doing what he needs to do to pass the protocols and get him ready for that next game. But he’s in good spirits, that’s the main thing.”

“Sam was hopeful for this week, so he’s probably unlikely. He’s not too far off.

“Yesterday was the day that we needed to go, okay, is he ready to go or is not? We decided that he’s probably not ready for this game.

“It was always going to be round three, that was what I was told initially but then we tried to get him back a little bit earlier was more hope than anything. So, he should be back next week.”

Peters did confirm that key forward Matty Storton will return to the squad for the game against the Rhinos in Round Two.

Peters said: “Matty (Storton) will be available for selection this week. Good stuff.”

He did confirm that young hooker Reiss Butterworth would miss the game as he awaits the birth of his baby which is the second time this month Hull KR have seen one of their players become a father:

“Reiss Butterworth’s just gone home. He’s due for a baby, but he’ll be fine. At the moment I want him to concentrate on the most important thing for him and that’s that’s having a baby.
