Hull KR saw their unbeaten start to the season end at the hands of Salford Red Devils in Round Three of the Betfred Super League.

The Robins kicked off the new Super League season with a win over their biggest rivals Hull FC with a 22-0 win.

A week later, they would edge Leeds Rhinos in a tight game but their winning start concluded with defeat to Salford Red Devils after a Marc Sneyd masterclass.

They left themselves with too much to do after trailing 12-0 at the break letting down the masses of fans who attended the game from Hull.

The club said that 1,200 fans made the trip making up nearly 25% of the overall attendance at Salford on Saturday which was a total of 5,036.

Two of Super League’s entertainers then faced each other in Saturday’s evening match, as Hull KR travelled to the Salford Stadium seeking the chance to make it three from three. But Salford Red Devils, who were buzzing on the back of their first victory in Round 2, proved they can be a competitive side in Super League as they sealed an impressive and well-deserved 17-10 win.

The Red Devils dominated for large parts of the game, building up a 12-0 lead in the first half with tries from Deon Cross and Chris Hankinson. Their momentum carried on into the second half, as two penalty kicks by Player of the Match Marc Sneyd took the scores to 16-0 in the home side’s favour. Despite an attempted late comeback from the Robins with back-to-back tries from Peta Hiku and Jez Litten, Salford’s number 7, in typical Sneyd style, slotted over a drop goal nine minutes from time – consigning the Robins to their first defeat of the season, whilst securing his side’s second successive win.

Now Salford and Hull KR are in a cluster of clubs with four points after the opening three weeks of the season with two wins from the opening three rounds.

St Helens are the only team to have won the opening three games. Wigan Warriors are also unbeaten but have played one less game due to the World Club Challenge.
