Hull KR duo ruled out of derby clash with Hull FC

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters

Hull KR will kick off the 2024 Super League season away against Hull FC. Ahead of this Round One clash there has been a lot of talk around fitness and Willie Peters has addressed the injury situation in his squad.

When asked if there was anyone ruled out, Peters said: “No, just the ones that we were going to have out. Obviously Sam Luckley is out. Matty Storton is the other one which we spoke about after the game.

“So his injury is not looking as bad as what we first thought, which is great. So initially that was going to be, well I was told it was four to six weeks, but he’s a possibility for being back round two, definitely instead of round three.”

Good news regarding Storton‘s injury but what about Luckley. Well, luckily for Luckley it is similar news:

“So we’ll know more where Sam’s at after this week, but he’s a possibility for being ready to go for round two as well. So, yeah, again, he sort of just started running again, and we’ll get a better idea at the back end of the week. Initially, it was sort of that round three, but there’s a possibility he could be back for round two.”

Peters also expressed that he was happy with the way Jez Litten has recovered from surgery playing 60 minutes against Leeds Rhinos in a pre-season friendly.

He said: “Yeah, it was good for Jez. We hadn’t planned on giving him that amount of time, especially at nine, we’re gonna move him to seven, give him some minutes there as well because we went with the three hookers. Matty Parcell obviously didn’t play because he had a baby. That was the plan initially and then Matty not playing and then Rhys getting injured. He had the head knock. It meant Jez played 60 minutes which in hindsight was really good for him.

“Been training well and he’s looking forward to Thursday night. Obviously, we have to send our best wishes to Matty and his family as well on the on the bare face, the big thing becoming a dad. Yeah massive is that there’s no better feeling and there’s nothing better you know for me than being a father that’s for sure and Matty’s experiencing that now and he realizes that when you get home no one gives you the manual.”
