Hull KR branded as “sissys” by Leigh Leopards sponsors

Academy graduate Louix Gorman bagged a brace despite Hull KR losing to Sheffield Eagles.

This week Leigh Leopards and Hull KR meet in the Challenge Cup Final but before they headed to Wembley the two had Super League clashes against Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors respectively.

On Friday night, Hull KR headed to Wigan with a number of loan signings and were beaten.

Leigh Leopards meanwhile went to the home of the Rhinos and won as Edwin Ipape and Thomas Amone scored either side of halftime and Ben Reynolds notched a second half penaty and a drop goal to claim a 13-6 win over the Rhinos to keep up their hopes of the top two.

Hull KR approach to preparing for their big story at Wembley this week was to rest so many stars against Wigan Warriors leading to a comprehensive defeat as Jai Field shone.

That was a very different approach to the one taken by Leigh Leopards with the Leopards only resting Josh Charnley and Zak Hardaker with Oliver Gildart starting ahead of Hardaker.

Gildart is ineligible for the game on Saturday at Wembley due to late registration. He is set to sign for Hull KR in 2024.

Leigh would hope he was available for the game with Ricky Leutele out and they will be sweating after some incidents in the game at Headingley with fears over potential suspension.

They no doubt faced a nervous wait on the Monday morning to discover their fates and that was likely especially true of Leopards forward Matt Davis who was in bother over a tip tackle which has can be heavily punished and he could have been in trouble over a late hit on Aidan Sezer.

The same could have been said of Gareth O’Brien when he took Ash Handley out in the air.

In the end, it paid off for them with both players avoiding suspension and the club keeping up with the top two.

Though Matt Davis did receive a fine for his tackle on Aidan Sezer.

Either way it was a gutsy approach from Leigh and whether or not it came from the fact they have a smaller squad it showed their commitment to finishing the league campaign strongly.

Now their Wembley opponents have been branded as “sissys” for their approach resting their star men by one of Leigh’s sponsors.

“I am so bloody proud of Leigh Leopards. Hull KR chose the sissy way out and we played the game and respected the opponent. Gorgeous win,” said Elvis Eckardt Recruitment.
