Hull FC look to youth as Tony Smith hands out debut

Hull FC are in a rut having won just one game of six in Super League so far and today Tony Smith has opted to give youth a chance in the game against Huddersfield Giants.

FC have lost four games this season by 22 points or more with their loss against the Giants in the Challenge Cup seeing them ship 50 points with ex-Black and White Adam Swift bagging four that day.

After defeat in the derby last week there’s plenty of pressure on Tony Smith but he’s not having it all his own way with injuries as a further three players were lost to injury last week.

Captain Danny Houghton (rib), Jack Ashworth (thumb) and talented young forward Nick Staveley (ACL) are all out with Staveley set to be sidelined for the rest of the season.

That takes FC’s injury list to ten players and has left Smith handing out a Super Legaue debut to young Logan Moy whilst Jack Charles makes a start in the halves after impressing last week against Hull KR.

Joe Cator also returns from injury to start from the bench alongside Moy with Matty Laidlaw the other change, that trio replacing the aforementioned Houghton, Ashworth and also Will Gardiner.

As for Huddersfield Giants, former Hull FC man Jake Connor returns and Jake Bibby retains his place ahead of Sam Halsall on the wing opposite Adam Swift.

Tui Lolohea partners Adam Clune once again whilst young props Matty English and Olly Wilson start after both coming in for praise from Ian Watson earlier this week when he discussed the absence of Chris Hill.

Adam Milner returns from suspension meaning that Thomas Deakin drops out of the 17.
