Hull FC launch new team ahead of 2024 Super League season

Hull FC’s female Rugby League pathway will grow further in 2024, with the inception of a brand-new Under 18s Girl’s team.

The club provides a wealth of opportunities for females who aspire to play Rugby League in the city, with teams playing in the Under 14s, Under 16s and open age categories.

Now, the Black & Whites are proud to be launching a new Under 18s team, which will form in January.

Understanding the gulf between Under 16s and open age Rugby League, Hull FC will now bridge the gap with an Under 18s team, competing in the RFL Under 18s Girl’s league.

Training will start at the Hull FC Training Facility on Monday 9th January, aligned with the start of pre-season training for the Black & Whites’ Women’s team.

Hull FC Female Pathways Manager Jack Coates said: “I am incredibly happy that we are able to offer an Under 18s team starting in the New Year, comprising of girls in Years 12 and 13.

“A lot of hard work has gone into building this pathway steadily over the last three years. This now aligns us with the RFL’s wider strategy of growing the female game.

“But it also completes our pathway from Under 14s up to Women’s Rugby League. It means we can offer players the chance to develop at their appropriate age category without them making a jump up to open age rugby too soon.”

Hull FC also were proudly visited by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales’ ‘Together At Christmas’ Carol Service at Westminster Abbey.

The service, now an annual event in the capital, is a joyful celebration of Christmas hosted by the Princess, which this year will aim to recognise all those who work to support babies, young children and families in communities across the UK.

Spearheaded by the Princess, the patron of the Rugby Football League, and supported by The Royal Foundation, the service will highlight the importance of building supportive, nurturing environments for children and the adults in their lives.

The invitation was received by the club following the Princess of Wales’ visit to the Hull FC Centre of Excellence at the University of Hull in October, celebrating the inclusivity of the sport and the club itself.

During her visit to the sport’s most inclusive club, the Princess of Wales took part in a Wheelchair Rugby League session, the most inclusive format of Rugby League, with the Hull FC Wheelchair squad, led by members of the World Cup winning England Wheelchair Rugby League team and Hull FC player-coach Mike Swainger.

She also learned about Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) and Learning Disability Rugby League (LDRL), as well as speaking to young people from Hull FC’s Centre of Excellence Sports College that engages post-16 learners with an ambition to progress into the sporting industry, be it as an athlete, a coach or a physiotherapist.
