Hull FC centre joins new club ahead of 2024 season

Featherstone Rovers have confirmed the arrival of Manoa Wacokecoke ahead of the new season.

The centre is from the Hull FC academy and was released by the club at the end of the year and has been on trial with Featherstone lately. This came after he had a stab at rugby union for Hull Ionians to no avail.

The centre’s arrival is a vital for the Rovers who have lost 19 players ahead of next year including Chris Hankinson and Ellis Longstaff, the latter of which is a former Hull FC player himself.

The Rovers announced the signing with the following statement: “Outside back Manoa Wacokecoke has signed a contract with Featherstone Rovers having impressed during his trial period. Manoa was a part of Hull FC’s first team squad in 2023.”

This comes as the club push the boundaries off the field as well. Building on the success of their live fan-zone experience and sold-out indoor concerts in 2023, Featherstone Rovers have partnered with local events organisers Saxon Promotions to deliver a calendar of live events throughout 2024.

Highlights for 2024 already include Soul Battalion – Soul and Motown classics on 6th April, The Pretend Beatles on May 3rd, offering a magical journey through the Beatles’ iconic catalogue, and The Bats Are Back – Meatloaf Tribute on July 12th, promising a night of epic performances as well as A Very Beautiful South, who will play as part of a two-day festival of events, dubbed Fev Fest which will be held on the weekend of 10th and 11th August

Speaking of the announcement, Rovers CEO Martin Vickers commented, “We’ve seen huge success in 2023 with the launch of fan zone events on game days and big sell-out events with local band Skinny Living. We’re looking to build on that in 2024, working with Saxon as an event partner to bring a list of events that will appeal to all. We already operate a thriving business at the stadium year-round, adding to that, drawing more people to use what is the best facility around locally.”

With over 50 years of experience in the events industry between them, the Saxon management team have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to what makes a successful event.

Saxon Promotions commented, “We’re delighted to be furthering our partnership with Featherstone Rovers to bring some very exciting events to The Millennium Stadium in 2024; the venue has huge potential for live events, and we’re very excited to share some more exciting announcements in due course.”
