Hull FC 20-10 Wigan Warriors: Player ratings and major talking points

In a repeat of the 2017 Challenge Cup Final, Hull and Wigan produced a brutal battle in the wet conditions at Headingley. In the end Hull claimed revenge for their league defeat at the hands of the Warriors last week. They’re just 80 minutes away from Wembley now.

Major Talking Points:

1. Team effort from the Black and Whites

Over the last few years, questions have been cast the way of Hull and their attitude as well as their ability to play as a team. It’s starting to seem that no such questions can be asked of them now. Today it was a magnificent team effort from Hull who didn’t have a bad performer on the pitch.

2. Wigan need to consider other options when it comes to kicking

I love Zak Hardaker. The Wigan fullback is undoubtedly one of the best players in the league and is having a magnificent season. However, it’s no secret that his goal kicking isn’t great and on today’s evidence neither are his kick-offs. Perhaps it’s time Wigan consider a different option such as Harry Smith who nailed a brilliant touchline conversion late on.

3. Hull’s magnificent front row

They were the difference. Chris Satae, Danny Houghton and Ligi Sao were magnificent. Satae scored twice and was the gamebreaker but his tries weren’t the only outstanding contributions he made. Meanwhile, the Wigan front row struggled to make any real impression against them such was the ferocity of their defence.
