Huge Super League transfer collapses

The likes of Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC, Hull KR and Huddersfield Giants have all signed major stars for the 2024 season.

The Giants have made a habit of major signings in recent years. The Claret and Gold have made major signings in recent years such as the arrival of Jake Connor for this year.

They have also signed Jack Murchie from the NRL for next year but one of their major NRL recruits has fallen through.

Ian Watson explained: “We’ll have to see. We’ve been speaking to a couple of people overseas about certain things and one of them that we’ve just found out this morning obviously that there won’t be an avenue on them, but it is what it is.

“We’re always looking to try and make the group better and if that right person comes available then we’ll be ready to act on the back of it but if it doesn’t become available then we’re obviously happy where we are but we’d always like to get better and improve.”

He explained what went wrong: “He’s just re-signed mate, somewhere, so it is what it is. We just contacted to enquire about something and then we just got told that he’s re-signed, so it is what it is.

“You’re constantly doing it, you come up through it, it’s just that that’s happened this morning. You’re doing it throughout the season, speaking to people, seeing if people are available, people who are off contracts and then having a little look at it.

“Today was no different, we spoke to somebody overseas and we just got told that the player that we would have been interested in has re-signed a longer term contract, so it is what it is.”

The Giants have been linked with Sydney Roosters youngster Tom Deakin for next year.

They have also been linked with NRL halfback Adam Clune for next year as well as a Theo Fages replacement.

He is bound for Catalans Dragons replacing Mitchell Pearce who, like Sam Tomkins, is retiring.
