Huddersfield Giants 26-12 Hull KR: Highlights, player ratings and talking points

Huddersfield Giants took on Hull KR in atrocious conditions at the John Smith’s Stadium.

With that being said, the Giants performed admirably, throwing the ball around in tremendous fashion and expertly dispatched their rivals, 26-12.

With Theo Fages at the helm and Luke Yates in inspired form, Huddersfield weren’t to be stopped extending their unbeaten run.

Highlights

Josh Jones selling two outrageous dummies to canter over in the first-half was a joy to behold.

Leroy Cudjoe rising highest to claim a Theo Fages kick and then to have the presence of mind to offload to Chris McQueen was superb work.

Mikey Lewis playing football for his try was inventive and straight out of the top drawer.

Talking points

1. Danny Levi looks a real find

Danny Levi totally dominated the ruck throughout the game, sniping from dummy-half with real fervour and helping to steer the Giants around the field. He came to the John Smith’s Stadium in the off-season and has settled in superbly.

2. What has happened to Hull KR?

Hull KR were the team to watch in 2021 with their free-flowing rugby league earning rave reviews. However, in their opening two appearances of 2022, the Robins have looked clunky and far from fluid in attack. Jordan Abdull and Mikey Lewis created little, but KR’s pack was dominant.

3. Huddersfield look so well-drilled

Huddersfield Giants rarely made a mistake and when they did, they soon made up for it with hard-hitting defence. But, Ian Watson looks to have turned his side around from the one that started 2021 and they are certainly reaping the rewards.
