Huddersfield 18-32 Wakefield: Player ratings and major talking points

Wakefield continued their outstanding form with a fourth win in five games. Huddersfield simply couldn’t deal with Trinity as Willie Poching’s side bossed the contest thanks to a powerful pack and a smart kicking game.

Major Talking Points:

1. Youth a double edged sword

Huddersfield have put a lot of faith into their youngsters in recent weeks and today was no different. The likes of Will Pryce and Olly Ashall-Bott were trusted in key roles and they excelled for the most part. That said, the inexperience of their line-up appeared to work against them as Jacob Miller and co kicked the Giants to death. Nonetheless, it bodes well for the future even if they’re struggling now.

2. Clinical Trinity

Wakefield just did everything right this afternoon in a very accomplished performance. They got on top of Huddersfield physically and forced the issue with the boot turning them around again and again. If they can take these performances was into 2022, they could be a top six contender.

3. Hewitt rightly dismissed

The game got fiery at times largely down to Sam Hewitt. I rate the inexperienced forward highly but today he was silly when going into collisions with his arm raised. In doing so, he put Wakefield players in danger and on the back of Andrew Fifita’s horrendous injury in the NRL it needed to be punished harshly. Hopefully, we don’t see an incident like this again.
