Golden point classic in the NRL marred by reported homophobic slur set to be investigated

Rugby League mistake

The Warriors and North Queensland Cowboys served up a classic encounter in the NRL today.

It was, like last season, an even battle adorned by plenty of superb tries from smart ball movement. In the end, both sides cancelled each other out drawing 24-all after 80 minutes with North Queensland squandering a chance to win the game late on.

In golden point the two sides missed chances before Shaun Johnson crowned his return to the Warriors with a match-winning drop goal.

A classic in many ways but it has now been marred by a report of homophobic language earlier in the game which is set to be investigated according to WA Today.

The incident was caught on camera around the 60-minute mark of the classic encounter and was a Warriors’ reaction to Kyle Feldt staying down injured. The camera appeared to depict a Warriors play saying: “Get up Kyle you f—-t.”

An investigation into the incident will now take place which could lead to significant sanctions.
