Other notable names include brothers Rhys and Ben Evans, Elliot Kear, Rhys Williams and Jacob Emmitt.

There is also an Australian contingent that will join up with the squad, including Lloyd White (Mackay Cutters), Will Evans (Burleigh Bears), Daniel Brown (St Mary’s) and James Olds (West Brisbane Panthers).

There is no place for Morgan Knowles, who has been chosen in the Great Britain Elite Performance Squad.

“We’ve got plenty of quality in our squad for the 9s World Cup and we’re looking forward to giving it a good go, said Kear.

Huddersfield youngster Chester Butler has been included by John Kear.

“This format is going to be new to a lot of the players, but it’s an opportunity for them to go out to Australia, enjoy themselves and build on last year’s internationals.

“We’ve got a lot of young players coming through and it’s a chance for them to test themselves against some of the best players in the world.

“It’ll be good to have a couple of players returning to the frame this year and they’re all keen to be on board as we build towards the next European Championship and World Cup.

“It’s important we play more fixtures as a group as it’ll only help us to develop.”

The 23-man squad will take part in a short training camp in North Wales in September, before being whittled down the final 16 who will jet off to the tournament in Australia.
