Former Warrington Wolves star completes stunning return

In a big day for a former Warrington Wolves star, Wigan Warriors concluded their pre-season with a friendly featuring their reserves against those of Huddersfield Giants.

The Reserves friendly against the Giants was originally scheduled to be played at Huddersfield Laund Hill, however, it ended up taking place at Wigan Rugby Union Club.

The Warriors named a 21-man squad to take on Huddersfield which consisted of First Team, Reserves and Academy players.

Mike Cooper was set to feature for the first time since suffering an ACL injury on Good Friday, whilst Abbas Miski was expected to play his first pre-season minutes after undergoing a clean-up of his knee during the off-season.

Speaking ahead of the Reserves friendly, Warriors Head of Youth, Shane Eccles said to the club’s official website: “With a week to go before the Super League campaign starts, it’s a good opportunity for players to get game time in preparation for the season. We have selected a mixed squad with some players who have a lot of First Team experience, and younger players who are pushing for their chance.

“It also provides a great learning opportunity for the young players to see the behaviours of the experienced players which will prepare them for their future in the game. Both Clubs have named strong squads which should make for a great game.”

Former Warrington Wolves star makes triumphant return

The game did indeed see Mike Cooper make his triumphant return as the former Warrington Wolves star returned from his ACL injury to feature in a whopping  66-10 win.

Damage was done in the first half as the Warriors led 26-0 at the break. They went on to win the second half 40-10 as the Warriors showed that they have perhaps the best and biggest squad in Super League.

Among the try scorers was a hat-trick for Abbas Miski who returned from surgery in red hot form hoping to feature in Round One against Castleford Tigers.

Cooper will have the same desire and both will be desperate to feature in the massive fixture between them and NRL Champions Penrith Panthers in the World Club Challenge.
