Wakefield Trinity star available to Super League clubs to sign

Former Wakefield Trinity and Catalans Dragons star Samisoni Langi is available to sign and could be a valuable pick up for clubs like Salford Red Devils and St Helens.

Many other clubs have used all of their quota spots ahead of the 2024 season but Saints have a quota spot open whilst Salford do likewise after the departure of cult hero Ken Sio.

Saints even have Langi’s traditional number three jersey available and could therefore make the move to bring Langi in to fill it.

Langi, 30, joined Trinity after a five-year stint in Perpignan where he has established himself as one of the finest threequarters in the competition.

Whilst mainly operating in the centre, Langi is also comfortable at halfback, second-row and loose-forward, which will be invaluable to any club.

The Tongan born French international was released by Wakefield at the end of the 2023 season leaving him available to sign.

Speaking on his move to Trinity, Langi said: “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge and can’t wait to get over and start.

“I’ve had a few conversations with Mark and I am really looking forward to working with him. His coaching style and the way he wants us to play particularly excites me.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know the people of Wakefield, putting my best foot forward and proving to the supporters that I will fit right in. I’m ready now and can’t wait to rip in.”

When he was released, Wakefield made the following statement:

“Wakefield Trinity can confirm the departure of Samisoni Langi after one season with the club. He joined us on a 2-year deal after spending 5 seasons with the Catalans Dragons in Super League.

“Unfortunately, Samisoni suffered persistent injuries during the season which restricted his appearances to 14 and his career with the club never really got out of first gear. We would like to thank Samisoni for his efforts with the club and wish him and his family all the very best for the future.”

It remains to be seen where Langi’s future will take him going forward and if he will remain in Super League.
