Former Leeds Rhinos man joins Super League rivals

Leeds Rhinos

London Broncos have drafted in a former Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils trialist Huw Worthington.

The former rugby union man Worthington featured at prop for the London Broncos in their reserves clash against Wigan Warriors.

Worthington was at Huddersfield Giants in 2023 playing against the Leeds Rhinos in reserves before being drafted in by the Rhinos and sent on loan to Widnes Vikings before featuring for Salford Red Devils this pre-season.

He has now taken the leap to the London Broncos.

Leeds Rhinos youngsters set for Championship moves

Leeds Rhinos have a lot of great youngsters and allowed one of those young players to leave the club on a season long loan.

The Rhinos allowed young Tom Nicholson-Watton to join York and now more young players are expected to leave Headingley on dual registration with Halifax Panthers.

The likes of Jack Sinfield and others could be headed for a move to the Championship.

There is also a belief that the Rhinos will allow new signing from Castleford Tigers Kieran Hudson to leave the club on loan for a brief stint in the Championship to continue his recovering against an achilles injury suffered at Castleford.

He made his first appearance for the Rhinos in a pre-season friendly against Hunslet and had a “mini pre-season” after this.

He is likely to join the Halifax Panthers on a dual registration agreement.

Leeds back to their best?

There is an argument to be made that Leeds are getting back to their best in 2024. The Leeds Rhinos at their best are a side who play good rugby, compete at the best and produce exciting young players.

That was the core of the Leeds Rhinos Golden Generation. The rugby Leeds are playing under Rohan Smith is similar to the mesmerising rugby they played under his uncle Tony Smith in 2004 and 2005.

In both seasons, Leeds scored over 1000 points and in 2005 they scored a record number of points racking up 1,162 points.

But these seasons were also underpinned by young players and that is the case in the modern Leeds Rhinos all the way down to a young loose-forward captaining the side.
