In the first Challenge Cup Final without Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and St Helens since 1986 we saw more history made as Leigh Leopards and Hull KR did battle at Wembley.
We saw the first yellow card in a Challenge Cup Final at the new Wembley and the first in any Challenge Cup Final since 2001.
That went to Elliot Minchella for a late hit on Ben Reynolds in which he was also in trouble for not wrapping his arms around Reynolds.
That wasn’t the only talking point involving Reynolds with the stand off avoiding a card of his own for a head butt which was deemed as rutting heads by official Chris Kendall.
The controversy didn’t end at Wembley though with a yellow card for Matty English as Huddersfield Giants and St Helens battled.
Joe Greenwood would then be sent off for leading with the elbow and after the game Ian Watson called for officials to look into an incident involving Morgan Knowles.
So, despite there being only two games this weekend there was plenty for the match review panel to dissect and that they did.
Unsurprisingly, Minchella has been hit with a punishment for the yellow card receiving a one match ban.
Meanwhile, the rest of the punishments unsurprisingly came from the fiery affair between St Helens and Huddersfield Giants.
Among them was Greenwood for the red card offence whilst Matty English was cautioned for his tackle that yielded a yellow card.
St Helens star Matty Lees is the man punished the most for a high tackle receiving a two match ban.
Following the Betfred Challenge Cup Final and latest Betfred Super League fixture, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:
Elliott Minchella (Hull KR) – Grade B Other Contrary Behaviour – 1 Match Penalty Notice
