Fighting breaks out outside stadium as police called in

As the City Toronto attempted to clear out a large homeless encampment outside the Lamport Stadium, fighting broke out.

Those living in tents at the stadium alongside dozens of supporters, have been demonstrating at police officers who have threatened them with arrest, the Toronto Sun has reported.

The encampment at Lamport Stadium was supposed to be cleared this morning by several dozen security officers, but residents and activists put up extreme resistance, tearing down caution tape and letting the police know just what they think of them.

20 more police officers arrived moments later, surrounding a woman in her tent who then agreed to move to a hotel. However, the officers had less success with other residents who are determined not to leave.

The city says encampments are not safe and camping in parks are not permitted.
