Featherstone Rovers swoop to recruit released Super League forward

Earlier today it was confirmed that Danny Addy had been released by Salford Red Devils however the Scotland international has already found a new club, with Championship side Featherstone Rovers announcing the signing of the 32-year-old.

Addy had left Salford after a three year spell with the Super League club during which he played 41 times, including 15 games during the most recent 2023 season, however he was allowed to leave the club.

He’s now found a new home as he heads to Post Office Road to play for Featherstone Rovers for the upcoming season, joining the likes of fellow former Super League man Greg Minikin who has joined from Warrington Wolves.

Rovers confirmed Addy’s arrival via social media confirming that the Scot would be joining for the 2024 season, the club having said goodbye to 17 players following the end of the 2023 season.

As such a major rebuild is needed and Addy joins as one of the key players to be involved alongside the likes of Minikin and also Challenge Cup winner Ben Reynolds. Rovers managed to snag Reynolds from Leigh Leopards after the playmaker’s contract expired with the Super League side.

On signing with Rovers, Addy said: “I’m really pleased to be joining my local club after so much time away.

“This club is in my blood, my family are supporters and I can’t wait to get out there to represent the club in what is an exciting project.”

Addy’s departure from Salford had been confirmed just hours earlier with a statement on the Super League side’s website reading: “We can confirm Danny Addy has departed Salford Red Devils.

“The Scotland international joined the club from the then-Leigh Centurions in December 2020 and has since made 41 appearances.

“He leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club and we would like to thank him for his efforts during his time in the red and white.”

Reflecting on his time at Salford, Addy said: “I would like to thank everyone involved for the last three years at Salford. I have loved my time here and met some friends for life – thank you!”

Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease has added: “Danny is a first-class professional and it has been a pleasure to work alongside him for the last three years.

“He has made a big contribution to the club and I know his teammates – past and present – hold him in very high regard.

“I would like to thank Danny for his contribution to the club and wish him the best of luck in his future ventures!”

Linking with Featherstone he’ll now aim to help guide the club into Super League after they fell short in the 2023 season despite running away with the league, securing the Championship by a margin of 12 points before falling to London Broncos in the playoffs.
