‘Farewell Game’ for Super League legend announced as part of pre-season schedule

Jake Webster was one of Super League’s most dominant centres at the peak of his powers but time waits for no man and it’s now been confirmed that his ‘Farewell Game’ will take place on January 14th.

Webster has been playing and then coaching at Keighley Cougars over the past few seasons but he was perhaps best known for his spell at the Jungle, representing Castleford Tigers on 125 occasions.

As such it’s been confirmed that Webster’s ‘Farewell Game’ will take place as part of each club’s pre-season with the game scheduled for Sunday January 14th at Cougar Park between Keighley Cougars and Castleford Tigers.

It was a game that was supposed to have happened far earlier in the year, as part of the 2023 pre-season, but the weather had other ideas that day which caused a cancellation.

Thankfully though the game has been able to be arranged, both sides taking to social media to confirm the news with current club Keighley announcing ticketing options.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, the League One outfit shared the news stating: “We can officially announce Castleford Tigers will visit Cougar Park on Sunday January 14th in Jake Webster’s Farewell Game!

“Adults £18
“Concessions (65+) £15
“Under 16’s Free”

As for former club Castleford they took to their website to share the news of Webster’s final game.

“The Tigers make the relatively short trip to Keighley to face the Cougars in Jake Webster’s Farewell fixture. The game will take place on Sunday 14th January, with kick-off scheduled for 2pm.

“Earlier this year, the Tigers were set to take on the then Championship side in what would have been the former Cas man’s testimonial but due to adverse weather conditions, the game was postponed. Fast forward to now, and with the Cougars now in League 1, Cas will travel to Cougar Park in their first game of 2024.

“Honouring a Tigers legend, Jake Webster is a much-loved former Castleford man after joining the club in 2013 he went on to make the centre spot his own and play his part in getting the Tigers to both the Challenge Cup Final in 2014 and Grand Final in 2017, as well as securing the League Leaders’ Shield in that memorable year.

“Since moving on from Wheldon Road at the end of 2018, Jake joined Bradford Bulls for the 2019 season, helping them secure a famous win over Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup, and then linking up with Keighley Cougars where he has been a fantastic servant over the years.”
