Explained: Why St Helens can’t use Wigan Warriors loophole

Last night the Match Review Panel revealed their disciplinary verdict on Wigan Warriors, Leigh Leopards and St Helens star ahead of the play offs.

The headline was the fact Wigan Warriors had three players banned and it looked like they were set to miss out on the semi-final next weekend.

However, they will avoid serving the ban in the semi-final due to the reserves Grand Final against St Helens.

But St Helens cannot use this same loophole to get George Delaney out of his ban.

This is because they don’t have the week off so he will serve the ban against Warrington Wolves this weekend.

Wigan will have been nervous over a number of their stars after potential high tackles from a number of their star men.

The same could be said of Warrington Wolves whilst Max Jowitt could have faced a similar offence.

Leigh may have had a few worries with Edwin Ipape after a tackle similar to the infamous John Asiata tackles whilst Tom Amone was placed on report for a crusher tackle.

There could have been bans for yellow card offences from Sam Tomkins, Amir Bourouh, Sam Lisone and Liam Watts.

Now the disciplinary verdicts have been confirmed.
