Ex-Hull KR and Hull FC playmaker finds new club for 2024

Plenty of big names are being signed and re-signed at the moment on both sides of the world and one former Super League star has committed his future for 2024, with ex-Hull KR and Hull FC playmaker Albert Kelly having put pen to paper with Souths Logan Magpies.

Kelly, aged 32, was one of Super League’s most dynamic halves during his time on Humberside, signing with Rovers in 2015 before crossing the city to play for the Black and Whites in 2017 where he would remain through the 2020 season. The Australian-born playmaker will now join another side who play in Black and Whites, signing with Souths Logan Magpies for 2024.

The club based in Brisbane play in the Queensland Cup placing second in 2023, with Kelly representing them seven times during that campaign, and the club took to Facebook to confirm his re-signing.

A post on Facebook read: “The fan favourite is returning in 2024 to steer the Magpies around the park. His 176 games of NRL/Super League experience will be invaluable for us on and off the field. Not a stranger to Magpies fans, this will be Albey’s fourth season in the Black and White.”

Kelly had signed with NRL new boys Redcliffe Dolphins prior to the 2023 campaign but he couldn’t force his way into Wayne Bennett’s plans meaning his game time was split between representing Recliffe’s Q Cup side, and then moving to join the Magpies.

He had also represented the Magpies in 2021 and 2022 having failed to break into the first team during his time at Brisbane Broncos, with whom he signed upon leaving Hull FC in 2020.

Kelly isn’t the only high profile re-signing that the Magpies have made though as they also took to Facebook to confirm that former Kiwi international hooker Isaac Luke was extending for 2024 with the side.

Luke has represented his nation on 43 occasions and won the World Cup in 2008 aged just 21 as well as playing almost 300 NRL games. The Magpies once again took to Facebook to confirm the role that the 36-year-old would take on with the side for 2024.

Their post on social media read: “The former Kiwi, Rabbitohs & Warriors Hooker has committed to Magpies for 2024. Another player who brings invaluable experience to Karmichael’s squad, with 286 NRL games & 43 Tests to his name.
“Bully will also be coaching the Hooker craft amongst our Junior Representative teams, Boys & Girls, as well as Marsden SHS. Thank you for your commitment to ‘The Nest’ Issac.”
